Shanahan taken off ice on stretcher in Rangers' loss

02/18/2007 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Rangers left wing Brendan Shanahan was taken off the ice on a stretcher with 12:33 left in the third period of New York's 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The veteran forward collided with the Flyers' Mike Knuble away from the puck in Philadelphia's defensive zone and laid on the ice for several minutes before being attended to by team trainers. Knuble was helped off the ice by the Flyers' training staff.

Shanahan, who was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he was scheduled to undergo tests for a concussion, was awake and alert and had movement in all of his body parts according to Rangers head coach Tom Renney.

X-rays and a CT scan were negative, but Shanahan was to be kept overnight in the hospital for observation.

"He's alert, responsive and aware of what's going on around him," said Renney. "But he doesn't recall the contact."

The 38-year-old Shanahan has a team-leading 28 goals to go along with 26 assists this season.
