02/18/2007 - Ottawa, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Senators got third period goals from Mike Comrie, Dean McAmmond and Mike Fisher as Ottawa came back to beat the Atlanta Thrashers, 5-3, at Scotiabank Place.
Peter Schaefer and Chris Kelly also tallied markers for the Senators, who have won four straight games and will host Edmonton on Tuesday.
Martin Gerber was steady in goal for the Senators, stopping 28-of-31 shots.
Vyacheslav Kozlov had a goal and an assist and Marian Hossa had two helpers for Atlanta, which has lost four in a row and seven of its last eight games. Steve McCarthy and Glen Metropolit each had a tally for the Thrashers.
Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves for the Thrashers, who will travel to Carolina for a game on Tuesday.
Atlanta held a 3-2 lead until midway through the third period. Ottawa tied the game again with 9:55 left when Comrie put home a rebound off a Joe Corvo shot the was initially stopped by Lehtonen to tie the contest at 3-3.
The Senators took the lead for the first time with 4:20 left in the contest when McAmmond's wrist got by Lehtonen to give the home team a 4-3 advantage.
"It started with good team play," McAmmond said of the game-winning goal. "Dany (Heatley) got the puck and put it in deep where Jason (Spezza) tracked it down. He made a pass and it was right on my tape. All I did was shoot it.
The Thrashers pulled the goaltender in favor of the extra attacker with 1:10 remaining, but couldn't get the equalizer and Fisher added an empty-net tally to account for the final score.
After an uneventful start to the contest by both teams, the Thrashers got on the scoreboard with nine minutes remaining in the opening stanza while on the power play. Following a scramble off the faceoff, Kozlov got the puck back to the middle of the point to McCarthy, who ripped a shot through several players, beating Gerber for a 1-0 lead.
The score remained the same until late in the frame when Schaefer lit the lamp with 32 seconds on a wrist shot to tie the game heading into the first intermission.
Atlanta reclaimed the lead 4:50 into the second when Ilya Kovalchuk ripped a shot wide of the net, but the puck bounced awkwardly off the boards and right to Metropolit, who was trailing the play and stuffed a wrist shot past Gerber from in close, giving the Thrashers a 2-1 advantage.
However, Ottawa came back to knot the game again about 2 1/2 minutes later while shorthanded. With Chris Phillips in the penalty box for holding, Antoine Vermette took a wrist shot from inside the blue line that was stopped by Lehtonen, but the rebound bounced to Kelly, who put the disc past the Atlanta netminder to tie the game at 2-2.
"I don't think I had a very strong night," Lehtonen said. "The first two goals I gave fat rebounds when the shots were fairly easy. I should have been able to handle them easily."
In a back-and-forth contest, the Thrashers struck for a power play tally with 1:43 left in the second stanza. Gerber stopped the puck behind his own net but the clearing attempt was knocked down by Kozlov along the right wing boards. The veteran left wing then took a quick wrist that surprised Gerber, giving the visitors a 3-2 edge heading into the second intermission.
